Once you have a solid viewer base you can ease off a little on the updates, but when I was trying to get traffic to my blog I found it immensely helpful to keep things fresh each day.
After I managed to get enough subscribers I didn't have to worry about getting free traffic to my blog anymore and those viewers I did have were satisfied with a few updates a week rather than one a day. However for the first couple of months whilst trying to gain a viewer base, keep the content coming.
Something else to consider is your domain name, this can be important. You need to give some serious thought to what you call your blog. Your domain name needs to be easily remembered, it is no good wanting people to share your blog with friends if they can barely remember the name. Popular blogs will be discussed amongst friends so the name has to be memorable. Although dotcom may be more expensive than another extension, it is the most popular so you should try and grab it, also think about keywords in your domain name.
When you first start your blog there will be one question on your mind. How do I get traffic to my blog? No doubt you have the usual followers, your family, closest friends perhaps a few people you do not really know but got involved in your blog on a social networking site, either way you will have far from a lot of people when you first start out. Well the following article is going to take you through some tips on how I managed to get plenty of free traffic to my blog, methods which should work just as well for you.
The following ways in which I managed to get traffic to my blog are in a set order, each working off the first, so try to follow the steps as I did for best results. As you go on you will eventually have enough readers that your blog will advertise itself though word of mouth, around 400 readers each day will help to accomplish this. Once I had this number I no longer needed to worry about getting free traffic to my blog. When blog traffic no longer becomes a worry thanks to word of mouth, you can put all your efforts into writing a great blog!

Step number one is to produce around four or five 'Pillar' articles.
These articles are designed as tutorials which will help your audience learn something useful. Try to keep them pretty short and sweet, no more than 600ish words, full of great advice that is relevant to day to day things. Basically make it something they will use.
In fact what you are reading right now could be labeled as a 'Pillar' article, it is teaching you something useful after all! Although granted I may go on for more than the recommended amount of words! These articles are great because not only are they useful to whoever reads them, but they will remain useful for a while instead of becoming outdated quickly like an article about the current no.1 single in the charts. Try to have a good amount of 'Pillars' for your blog so chances are everybody will be able to find something of use.
The next step is to stay fresh, try to update your blog at least once a day, hopefully more. These do not have to be 'pillars' but just something interesting or amusing, to keep people interested and hopefully entertained. Or simply informed if that is the goal of your blog. The main reason you should do this is to help get return visitors, people will come back each day if they think you will have something new for them, whereas a blog that is only updated once a week can at most expect blog traffic to be good once a week. Getting people to bookmark your blog is the ultimate goal.

Blog Traffic ~ How Can I Be Steadily Increasing
The Amount Of Free Traffic To My Blog?
BLOG TIPS
Show your personality in your writing – Establishing a voice in your writing is a crucial element is producing content that people will want to keep coming back over and over again for more.
Study SEO like your life depended on it -
Driving traffic to your blog through search engines is what you call “organic traffic.” Other types include referral sites, and direct traffic.
Forget about the stats – How much time do you spend checking the stats of traffic to your blog?
Don’t think about making money…at first – The problem with focusing solely on money in the beginning is that you lose sight of the far more significant goal every new blog must reach first: quality content.
The next thing you want to do is spread the word around about your own blog, on other popular blogs. When you have the Pillar articles in place as suggested, and are updating your site daily, with a good memorable domain name, it is time to spread the word. Commenting on popular blogs is one of the best ways to do this. Remember you are looking for people who would be interested in your own blog, so try and comment on blogs that cover similar issues to your own.
The majority of systems these days let you have your blog link under your name when you comment. This makes it very easy to attract some blog traffic. As long as your comments are interesting people will begin to recognize you and eventually check out your blog.
Next you want to use 'trackbacks'. T hese are pretty much conversations through blogs. You can link to other peoples blogs in your own when you produce new articles. This leaves a small summary of your blog post on their own blog entry, basically their blog is informed that you wrote about them.
You want to try and get as many comments going on your blog as you can. A blog that gets a lot of comments shows other people that there is a form of community going on. It gives the impression of a good blog because it seems popular, and will encourage people to read it for themselves. One of the easiest ways to get comments going on your blog is to ask a question in one of your posts. Do not ignore the replies, keep the conversation going.
The final tip is to send your newest 'Pillar' article to something called a blog carnival. This blog carnival takes place when a single blog tries to collect the best available articles on a single topic.
So basically the best content is selected for each topic, which usually changes each week. This carnival blog will get a lot of links from other blogs and as such will seriously increase your free blog traffic if you have an article mentioned.
