Website traffic can be increased in a variety of ways, but some techniques garner better results than others. The most effective way to get free website traffic is to make your content search engine friendly. Optimizing your website will help the search engines generate leads targeted to your specific product, service or content.
To optimize your website, consider these factors:
The search engine optimization (SEO) factors governing your search engine page rank are in your complete control.
You want to rank the keywords that drive people to your website so those keywords must be on the page or pages that you want targeted.
Make certain your keywords are in the title of your web page, which should be at the top of your content and as close to the left in your browser window as possible; your keyword should also be included in at least one heading tag and at least twice within the main text of your page content.
Keep your page url as short as possible while including the keywords you wish ranked; separate each word in your url with a hyphen and follow it with any required extensions.
To further boost your rankings, make certain the first segment of your domain name also includes your keywords, this time without hyphenation.
Use textual links when building your website. To improve your rankings, make certain those links are composed using basic html code. Check your website design package carefully because search engines have trouble reading textual links built with Javascript or similar methods; and you want to avoid confusing search engines as much as possible.
Search engines give preference to what they consider reputable sites. To make certain your website meets that criteria, your pages should include your terms of service; your contact information with any or all of the following: email address, snail mail address, and phone numbers; a page detailing your privacy policy; and an About Us page that gives some background and history of your business or service. Those few things alone can dramatically increase your page rank.
A site map is another key feature you will want to add to your website. A site map is a web page, or a collection of web pages, containing links to every single page on your website; since search engines need to find these links easy to read they should be written in XML.
There are critical off-page SEO factors that relate to your page rank and unfortunately they are not in your complete control.
Two web pages with the exact same content and very similar urls are ranked in relationship to links from external web pages which are beyond your control.
Your page rank is affected by the number of outside pages linked to your website and the amount of page rank they carry; that is why link building among quality websites is a vital strategy for improving your SEO and assuring your website gathers targeted free website traffic.
